Augusta's Legion baseball team got on top of Ark City early in their first-round match-up of the Orioles' home Single-A Zone tournament.

That lead would hold up for a couple of innings before Ark City scored two runs for a 2-1 lead. Ark City made that lead last the rest of the game as it knocked off the Orioles by a final of 4-2.

In the first game of the night, Andover Central (22-4) flexed some offensive power with more than a dozen hits on way to a 9-1 victory against Winfield.

Augusta will face Winfield to start Day 2 of the Zone tournament at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Central will face Ark City at 6. The winner of the first game will face the loser of the second game in the double-elimination tournament.

In the Orioles' game, Blake Bevan led off Augusta's first with a walk, then stole second base. With two outs, Cole Howerton came through with an RBI base knock to take a 1-0 lead.

In the third, though, Ark City put together three straight hits for a 2-1 lead. Ark City added an unearned run in the fourth. The Orioles gave up two unearned runs in the game.

That didn't help Trey Wesbrooks, who put together a solid six-inning effort. He had six strikeouts and scattered eight hits and three walks.

Cody Wesbrooks hit a lead-off single in the Orioles' sixth, then stole second base before the Orioles struck out twice in a row. But Collin Eldringhoff hit a two-out RBI single to score Wesbrooks and pull Augusta within two runs.

The Orioles got a single to start their seventh, but went down three straight at-bats to end the game.

The Jaguars broke up a scoreless game in the fourth with a big offensive output. They drew five walks and came through with three hits and seven runs.

Central added two more runs in the sixth for a 9-1 lead, where the score stayed the remainder of the game.
