  • Adversity is defined as a misfortune, or a calamity in one’s life.  Eventually we all face adversity in our lives.
This tends to make us ask the question, how should we respond when presented with the situation?
First, learn from your adversity.  Complaining about it never corrected any problem or situation.  The trick is to learn lessons from the situation.  The Prodigal Son learned his lessons from his adversity.  His adversity was self-inflicted.  He made bad choices early in his life, which caused him to suffer the consequences of his choices.
When, this young man hit rock bottom, the Bible said: “…he came to himself.”  (Luke 15: 17).
It was at this point in his life he began to learn the lessons of his choices.  This in turn brought on his adversity!  Therefore, it is with all of us.
When faced with adversity – learn from them!
Second, grow from your adversity.  Unbelievably some of our best work is completed when we are dealing with adversity.  The problem with some is that they cannot see the good that can come from their adverse conditions.  God gave Solomon the wisdom to see his good works, for he says, “I have counsel and sound wisdom; I have insight; I have strength.”  (Proverbs 8: 14).
Solomon grew from his adversity.  The same principle is ours, if we will see it.
Finally, stand up to adversity.  Life is like a boxing match - we fight to win, and sometimes we may be knocked down, but the winner gets back up only to fight again!
The boxer, like the Christian, stands up to his opponent – adversity.
Solomon writes, “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.”  (Proverbs 24: 10).
The question is not if we will face adversity, but when.  When that day comes remember, learn, grow and stand up to adversity!
