Approval of annexation
The Andover City Council approved Tuesday evening an annexation ordinance to bring 1118 East Highway 54 into the City of Andover at the request of the property owner.
Council Member Troy Tabor noted annexations into the city seem to go smoother when they are at the request of the property owner. He suggested giving courtesy calls to future properties the city would be interested in annexing into the city.
Mayor Ben Lawrence said he would be willing to make those calls.
Also at the meeting, Andover YMCA Executive Director Shane Loy spoke to the Council about a July 19 YMCA event from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Intrust Bank Arena.
The gala is a major fundraiser for the YMCA, explained Loy, and it raises money that goes back into the community. The Andover YMCA gives about $300,000 each year to people that need services in Andover and surrounding communities.
Loy noted he’d like for this to be a community event and requested representation from the city at the event. Tickets are $100, with $60 of that going to the campaign, or $750 for a table of eight.
After a brief discussion among Council members about the city reserving a table or whether that would be a good use of taxpayer dollars or not, Lawrence requested Loy reserve a table for him so he and other city representatives and families may attend the event.
Later in the meeting, Lawrence presented a certificate of completion to Council Member Sheri Geisler for successfully completing the 2014 Civility in Public Service.
