  • Early on the morning of July 7th, El Dorado Fire responded to a report of the fire alarm system going off at the old El Dorado Middle School building. The El Dorado Police Dept. also responded to the call to assist EFD with searching such a large building.
Fire and P.D. officers searched all 4 levels of the building, door-by-door only to find that someone had unlawfully entered the building and discharged a fire extinguisher on an upper floor of the building which set off the smoke detectors.
A USD 490 supervisor was called in to verify what we had found and informed us that the video surveillance system for the building was still active! The video will be turned over later today for EPD to follow-up on.
The help of all involved made searching the very large structure go much faster!
About 15 minutes after that call, El Dorado Fire was paged for a vehicle fire at a residence along the SW Trafficway. After extinguishing the fire, EFD Fire Investigators found several items that looked suspicious and EPD was called in again to assist. After further investigation, a suspect was taken in for questioning. EPD has taken the case and it remains under investigation.
We are very fortunate to have a great working relationship with our brothers and sisters in law enforcement. It is especially obvious in nights like last night when our small department’s resources/manpower are tapped out. The crews from EFD and EPD came together seamlessly and the jobs were handled.
