  • Pioneer Balloon in El Dorado was the only business in the state of Kansas to receive the E Award from the U.S. Department of Commerce this year.
They were one of 65 companies across the country receiving the highest recognition for exporting made by the department.
Plant Manager Matt Wallsmith and Quality Assurance Manager Anthony Marrone were presented with a certificate recognizing this honor during the 2014 Business Nominations and Adopt-a-Class mentor at the Business Recognition luncheon on June 24.
A.J. Anderson, with the U.S. Department of Commerce, was on hand to present the certificate.
He said he worked with Pioneer Balloon quite a bit in submitting the nomination for the award.
They export to more than 60 countries.
“After working with them on business in Brazil, they were so impressed they asked them to decorate the U.S. Consulate for July 4,” he said.
Ted Vlamis, vice president in charge of Pioneer Balloon’s international division traveled to Washington, D.C., to receive the award.
“It meant a great deal,” said Wallsmith. “We sell to a lot of different countries and it means a lot to be recognized.”
