  • El Dorado Emergency Responders were busy at 4:30 this morning. They were paged to 117 N. Gordy Street for a structure fire.
Law enforcement were the first to arrive. They found a two-story brick apartment building with heavy smoke coming from the second story. The officers initiated a full evacuation of the building.
Fire crews arrived and made a quick attack on the fire which was confined to one apartment. A number of pets were rescued from the building.
EMS crews treated several of the apartment residents for smoke inhalation. None of the residents were transported to the hospital.
The occupant of the apartment with the fire was not at home. A niece who possibly lives with the apartment dweller has not been located.
The El Dorado Fire Department conducted the investigation. The investigators determined the cause of the fire was an old box fan.
The Red Cross is helping those occupants who need assistance. The apartment owner is also assisting the occupants.
The apartment where the fire was located is a complete loss. The other apartments all had smoke damage.
