  • Area athletes compete in all-star basketball game

  • A handful of Butler County's top basketball players competed in the KBCA All-Star basketball games Saturday.
    In the boys game, Adam Dekoning scored 17 points and Cody Holthaus added 10 points to lead the White team to a 105-97 victory against the Blue team. The White team had a 59-45 halftime lead.
    Dekoning, who earned a league MVP award for the Andover Trojans last season, hit 5 of 9 field goals and made 7 of 9 free throws. Douglass High School's Holthaus, who was an All-Central Plains League First Team selection, finished with four field goals, two of them 3-pointers, for his 10 points. Douglass' Chase Banister also participated. He scored two points on 1-of-3 shooting.
    Ashland's Meiniger led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field.
    Other teams represented in the game include Hesston, Lansing, Eudora, Goddard-Eisenhower and Newton.
    In the girls game, The Blue team beat the White team 82-75. Skyler Snodgrass of Andover Central was Butler County's lone representative. She finished 1-of-6 from the floor, with her one made shot a 3-pointer for all her points.
    Other teams represented for the girls include Salina Central, St. Thomas-Aquinas, Hillsboro, Garden Plain, Pratt and Maize South.
