The Summer Academy combines learning with fun. This year they added seven student volunteers from the middle school and high school, as well as middle school and high school teachers, which let them offer more middle school classes.
One new class this year was sewing, where students were making pillows and doing cross stitch.
They also had a class in conjunction with Butler Community College for those wanting to learn about getting a job. Through this class, community people came in to do interviews with the students and give advice on appearance, etc.
There also were a couple of new classes involving mental games.
One popular returning class was Animal Detectives, where kids got to see a variety animals, with them having a different animal every day in their class that the kids got to hold and learn about.
In the Math Strategies class, kids used a variety of games to practice math and thinking skills.
The classes were held through the month of June.
