F. Jay Lawrence, 87, El Dorado, died June 13, 2014, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital.
Jay’s children will receive relatives and friends from noon until 2 p.m. Sunday, March 15, at Carlson Funeral Home.  Services will be 10  a.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, at First United Methodist Church of El Dorado, with burial at Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jay was born Feb. 19, 1927 in El Dorado to Hugh and Nina (Fester) Lawrence.   He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1944 and later from Butler County Community College following his WW II Navy service.   On Dec. 31, 1950 he married Iris L. Henman of Augusta.  They made their home together in El Dorado for 63 years except during his service in the Navy.  Jay worked for Skelly Refining and Marketing and retired from Texaco in 1983 with 37 years of service.  
Jay was a member of the Kiwanis Club, played sousaphone in the City Band, served on the Board of Education, was active in the First United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir.  In retirement, he and Iris delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years and worked on Habitat for Humanity projects.  Jay was an accomplished carpenter and enjoyed using his talents to help family and friends whenever he could.
Jay and Iris traveled a lot in their retirement and especially loved to take their grandchildren on summer trips to Colorado.
Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Nina, and brothers, Harding and Don.
Survivors include: Iris (Henman) Lawrence of the home; sons, Richard Lawrence and wife Sue of San Angelo, Texas, Dan Lawrence and wife Jane of Weatherford, Texas, Rod Lawrence and wife Hatsie of Lenexa,  Jim Lawrence and wife Diane of Winfield, and Tom Lawrence and wife Stacy of Plano, Texas; daughters, Amy Lawrence of Shawnee, Kan. and Martha Lanpher and husband Curt of Lawrence; grandchildren, Matt Lawrence and wife Karen, Brad and Joe Lawrence, Kara and Lindsay Lawrence, Ali Geitz and husband Jon, Ben Lawrence and wife Jenna, Codi and Sam Lawrence, Julie Lawrence, Brian Lawrence and wife Peggy, Adam Lawrence, Renee Hartford and husband Brett, Brad Lanpher, Landon, Ava and Hadley Lawrence;   great-grandchildren, Ali and Jon’s children Cameron and Carson Geitz, Ben and Jenna’s daughter Rachel Lawrence, Renee and Brett’s daughter Selah Hartford.
