  • Derby sent 14 batters to the plate in an eight-run third inning to defeat El Dorado 10-4 at McDonald Stadium on Wednesday night. Then the news got worse.
Brandon Cuddy, who went 3 for 3, dislocated a shoulder making a tag at first base in the sixth. It is uncertain how long he will be sidelined.
The third was a nightmare for the Broncos, who made three errors in the inning.
Nate Fields, playing his first game for the Broncos, homered in his first at-bat, the fifth Bronco to do so.
El Dorado missed many scoring chances, leaving runners in scoring position in four innings. In the third, Cuddy and Jonathan Schmitz singled to open the inning. They were stranded at second and third.
The Broncos travel to Liberal on Friday for a three-game series. Liberal handed Hays a 6-0 lost on Wednesday. It was Hays' first loss in six league games.
