Augusta's softball team gets its wish.

The Orioles (18-4) earned the No. 1 seed at the Class 4A-Div. I softball tournament and will face DeSoto in the opening round at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 29 in Salina.

DeSoto, which handed Augusta its lone loss of the year in last year's championship game, enters the state tournament with a losing record of 9-13. DeSoto beat Shawnee Mission-Bishop Miege 13-6 to advance to State.

McPherson is the No. 2 seed and will play No. 7 Wamego in the opening round. Other first-round match-ups are No. 3 Louisburg (15-6) versus No. 6 Rose Hill (12-10), and No. 4 Fort Scott (15-7) versus No. 5 Kansas City-Piper (12-8).

If the Orioles win their opener, they will play the winner of the Fort Scott-KC Piper game Friday morning, May 30. Of the other opponents, the Orioles split two games with McPherson and swept Rose Hill earlier this season.

The state championship game is set for 2 p.m. May 30.
