Rose Hill's baseball team found itself on the brink of elimination against Winfield during regional action Wednesday.
Instead, the Rockets clawed their way back to claim the Class 4A regional championship and advance to the Class 4A-Div. I tournament next week.
The Winfield Vikings slowly and methodically built a 4-0 lead after five innings by scoring one run in each of four different innings.
That's when the Rockets picked up their play on offense. They scored three in the sixth and one in the seventh to force extra innings. Rose Hill scored three in the top of the eighth. Winfield nearly pulled off an incredible rally of its own, but the Rockets held the Vikings to just two runs and came away with a thrilling 7-6 victory.
The Rockets finished with nine hits and one error. Winfield had seven hits, but also had six errors to let Rose Hill climb back into the game.
Kyle Boal led the Rockets with three hits and had a double and an RBI. Griffin McBride was 2-for-5. Samuel Grant, Garrett Forsberg, Dylan Sinclair and Harrison Haydock all finished with one hit apiece.
Grant pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief work. He allowed one earned run and no hits. He struck out three, but walked five Viking batters.
The Rockets already had defeated Mulvane 8-0 in the opening round.
