  • It will be all about science at the Bradford Memorial Library summer reading program this summer.
The children’s theme is “Fizz, Boom, Read,” while the teen theme is “Bark a Reaction” and the adult theme is “Literary Elements.”
Sign-ups for the reading programs start on Tuesday.
In addition to the beginning of sign-ups, Tuesday also is the first program for the summer. Neil McIntyre, aka Mr. Kneel, will be performing Hip Hop for Families at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Kneel, a professional speaker, hip-hop emcee and Beatboxer, uses his talents to encourage and uplight children of all ages.
Other special programs include a program by the Kansas Cosmosphere at 6:30 p.m. June 10 and a performance by Clement McCrae Puppet Shows at 6 p.m. July 8.
For the children’s reading program, there will be one change this year.
Youth will be required to read 10 or 15 minutes a day, depending on their age, and can mark off one of 50 spaces on a sheet of paper for each day they read. After reading 10 days, youth can bring in their sheet for a prize, with a second prize after 25 days and a pizza coupon from Pizza Hut for completing all 50 days. They also will have an activity sheet with literacy-type activities to complete and turn in. Once they complete both of these things, they can get their picture in the paper. The reading program runs from May 27 through Aug. 7.
In addition to this program, there also will be the Rubber Ducky Club for ages birth though 35 months. This will also include an activity sheet for June and one for July, as well as reading for 50 days.
Regular children’s programs will resume June 3.
On Tuesdays will be a program at 2 p.m. for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade; Wednesdays at 2 p.m. will be movies for all ages; Thursdays at 10 and 11 a.m. will be Preschool Story Time for ages 3 to 5; and Fridays at 10 a.m. will be Toddler Story Time for those under 3. These will run throughout the summer except the week of the Fourth of July. Attending Story Time does could for reading time for the summer reading program.
