The Bluestem baseball team refused to relinquish the lead after grabbing it early against Eureka in a 13-3 victory Monday at Leon to start the Class 3A Caney Valley regional tournament.

Eight runs in the first three innings allowed Lions to put the game away early.

A wild pitch and a two-run single by Chance Gale in the first inning along with an RBI single by Cooper Minnick, an RBI single by Judd Simon, and a walk by Jacob Warren during the second inning supplied the early offense for Lions.

Bluestem's Judd was perfect at the dish, going 2-for-2.

In the third, Lions scored on a two-run single by Casey Garner, scoring Dakota Clift and John Stiger.

After a quick strike from Eureka, the Lions responded with four runs in the fourth. The Lions scored on a single by Gale, a groundout by Nick Saia, a groundout by Charlie Willhite, and then a wild pitch.

Clift started for the Lions on the mound and pitched 3 1/3 innings. He gave up zero earned runs on one hit while walking two and striking out three.

Bluestem advances to play Humboldt at Caney Valley Wednesday.
