  • Mike L. Watkins, 64, of Easton, Kansas, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the University of Kansas Medical Center, surrounded by family after a courageous eight year battle with Cancer.

  • Mike L. Watkins, 64, of Easton, Kansas, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the University of Kansas Medical Center, surrounded by family after a courageous eight year battle with Cancer.
    Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2014 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Father Matthew Francis officiating.
    Visitation will be from 2 until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014 with the family present from 6 until 8 p.m., and a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Belden Larkin Funeral Home.
    Burial with Military Graveside Honors will be at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery.
    Mike was born January 25, 1950 in Sabetha, Kansas, the son of Henry and Marjorie (Mallows) Watkins.
    Mike graduated from Easton High School in 1968. He served in the United States Air Force as a Recreation Specialist, serving in Grand Forks, North Dakota in the 804th Combat Support Group and at Sembach Air Base, Germany with the 601st Headquarters Squad. Mike attended Northeast Kansas Technical Center in Atchison, Kansas after his return from the Military.
    In May 1970, he married Barbara "Diane" Zule in Easton, Kansas. They have been married for 44 years.
    Mike worked as a boiler operator for Co-op in Lawrence, Kansas for eight years before going to work for the Leavenworth County Highway Department as a Diesel Mechanic and Shop Foreman. He retired from there after 22 years of Service.
    Mike enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, traveling and spending time with his family. He was an avid bowler for over 30 years and made many good friends during that time. He was very involved in the Easton Youth Club for over 20 years.
    He is survived by his wife Diane, two daughters; Tracy Diane Johnson and her husband Sam of Winchester, Kansas, and Janelle Lynn Lee and her husband Jeff of Basehor, Kansas, one son; Michael William Watkins and his wife Stacey of Leavenworth, five grandchildren; Michael, Hannah and Emma Johnson, and Jackson and Eva Watkins; two sisters; Elsie Watkins of Leavenworth, and Laura Porter of Topeka, Kansas, two brothers; Frank Watkins and his wife Rita of Easton, Kansas, and Dennis Watkins of Horton, Kansas, along with nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Eldon Watkins.
    Pallbearers will be Charles Sanderson, David Zule, Greg Zule, Scott Watkins, Gene
    Peters and Michael Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jackson Watkins, Christopher Zule and J.R. Rodriquez.
    Memorials in his name may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Juvenile Diabetes Organization.
