Flinthills waited a while to get going, but once it did, the offense rolled.

The Mustangs’ baseball team trailed West Elk 1-0 after the first inning and 2-0 halfway through the fifth. The Mustangs responded with three runs in the fifth and three in the sixth for a 6-3 comeback victory. Flinthills, which honored its seniors for Senior Night, only played one game.

West Elk got four straight hits to start the game and scored the opening run. The Mustangs had just one hit through the first four innings.

Colton Allemand got the Mustangs’ offense started in the fifth with a single. Montgomery Moore then crushed an RBI triple for Flinthills’ first run of the game. Trevor Kemp walked to put runners on the corners, and Zach Sangals connected for a two-RBI double to give Flinthills the lead.

West Elk scored an unearned run in the sixth.

The Mustangs’ baserunners took advantage of walks and errors to score three more runs Jason Hefton, Allemand and Moore gave them a 6-3 lead.

West Elk struck out twice and got picked off on a steal attempt to second to end the game.

Allemand threw nine strikeouts and allowed eight hits, four walks and two earned runs through 5 2/3 innings. Moore finished the final 1 1/3 inning with two strikeouts and just one hit.
