  • Augusta pitcher Hutson suspended

  • Augusta's baseball team dealt with a lot this week.
In addition to getting swept both Monday by Andale and Thursday by Maize South, the Orioles became distracted with off-the-field issues when they found out they may be without star pitcher Garrett Hutson the remainder of the season.
Hutson was suspended Wednesday from Augusta High School and the Oriole baseball team. The time of the suspension has not been determined officially, but likely would run through Regionals and maybe State if the Orioles advanced that far.
Augusta baseball coach Doug Jefferson said the suspension was a result of recent actions by Hutson.
Jefferson said he was told by the AHS administration Wednesday about the decision.
"It was above and beyond me," Jefferson said.
Hutson, a junior, has had an All-League quality season for the Orioles. He has verbally committed to Oklahoma State University. He transferred to Augusta last semester from Circle.
The suspension clearly was on the mind of the Orioles during Thursday's home losses to Maize South.
"It's something they haven't been through, it's something I haven't been through," Jefferson said. "We'll work to find a way to get through it.
"It's been a long two days," Jefferson added.
