  • Augusta's softball team got two big wins at Andale Monday evening to clinch the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Div. IV regular-season title.
The Orioles beat the Indians 6-1 in the opener, then steamrolled them 20-0 in a run-rule win after five innings.
The Orioles finished league play with an undefeated record of 8-0 by sweeping Wellington, Circle, Clearwater and the Indians. Collegiate does not have a softball team. Augusta is now 14-2 on the season; the Orioles' JV team also is 14-2.
Augusta plays Maize South at home Thursday for senior night, then wraps up the season at Buhler Monday, May 12.
In the opener against Andale, Kylie Wesbrooks led the Orioles with two hits, including a double, and a walk. She had three RBIs. Katy Nordman had a triple and an RBI. Brooke Eberhardt and Abby Tipton added hits as the Orioles finished with just five total. They took advantage of four walks and two Andale errors.
Megan Hayes gave up just one earned run in a complete-game victory. She threw four strikeouts and allowed four hits and four walks.
Nicole Becker was outstanding on the mound as she pitched a no-hitter in game 2. Becker had one strikeout, and the defense played well enough to overcome three errors to not allow any runs across the plate for Andale.
The Orioles' offense picked up steam in game 2. Nordman and Casady Marlnee both hit home runs. Marlnee had a team-high five RBIs. Nordman and Wesbrooks both had four RBIs on four hits apiece. Morgan Kirk was 2-for-4 with a walk and one of the Orioles' six doubles. She had three RBIs.
Carley Phillips was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Taylor Hinnenkamp also was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Both Phillips and Hinnenkamp had one steal.
Andale had six errors in the game.
