  • Andover Central won the Smoky Valley Tennis invitational Thursday.
The Jaguars edged out Buhler and the other six teams, including Ellinwood, Hutch Trinity, Sacred Heart, Sterling and two teams from Smoky Valley.
The doubles team of Jacob Thompson and Cameron Davis helped Central win the title as they won the Doubles Bracket by beating the No. 1 seed from Hutch Trinity.
They won all four rounds easily with scores of 8-2, 8-3, 8-3 and 8-4 in the championship.
Matheu Wakefield also helped the team to a win with his runner-up finish in the singles bracket. Wakefield was seeded seven but fought his way into the finals.
Renton Williams from Central placed seventh as did the doubles team of Murray and Flynn.
The Jaguars hope to ride this success to a successful week as the AVCTL conference tournament is set to begin Monday.
