Flinthills' baseball team had a remarkable offensive slugfest in its doubleheader against West Elk Monday.
The Mustangs beat Elk Valley 24-2 in the opener and kept rolling for another blowout in a 31-1 victory.
The Mustangs racked up 11 hits and drew 15 walks in the opener. Jason Hefton and Clay Oates both had two hits apiece. Brenton Nelson, Montgomery Moore, Colton Allemand, Trevor Kemp, David Snyder, Jed Humig and Ben Snyder all added one hit each. Moore walked four times, Hefton had three walks, and Nelson, Kemp and Humig all drew two walks each. Flinthills also had 15 stolen bases.
Humig gave up just four hits and two earned runs. He had three strikeouts. The game reached the run rule after three innings. Allemand had two strikeouts in one relief inning.
Game 2 was an even bigger offensive romp. The Mustangs pieced together 19 hits, drew seven walks and took advantage of seven Elk Valley errors. They scored 14 runs in the first inning and 12 more in the second.
Jayden Simmons and Allemand both had four hits apiece to lead the offense. Simmons scored five runs and had a double and an RBI. Allemand three doubles had six RBIs. Moore was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Nelson was 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Oates was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Humig also drove in three runs.
The Mustangs added eight more stolen bases in game 2.
Moore only allowed two hits and struck out two for Flinthills on the mound.
Flinthills improves to 9-3 and travels to play Cedar-Vale/Dexter Thursday in Rosalia.
