  • Some residents in town north of the refinery, especially around the Dillons area may have noticed a fine sand-like material in the air and covering surfaces this morning.
This was due to a malfunction of a filtering module on one of the units at the HollyFrontier Refinery plant, causing these particles to be emitted from the plant.
Frontier El Dorado Refining LLC’s focus is on the safety of the community and environment.  The catalyst particles are similar to small sand particles which can be an eye irritant, but is a relatively benign material and not harmful or hazardous.  The material can be swept off surfaces and thrown in the trash safely.
For residents who have had vehicles dusted by this material and would like assistance with car wash or other clean-up efforts, contact Bill Kloeblen at 316-321-8306.
