Julie Burns Gawith competed in the Boston Marathon Monday, where she posted a time of 3 hours, 11 minutes, 34 seconds. Gawith qualified for Boston last September in Minnesota by running 3 hours, 16 minutes, beating the qualifying time of 3 hours, 40 minutes.
Gawith graduated from El Dorado High School in 2001, where she played softball, volleyball, basketball, and ran track. She graduated from Butler County in 2003 where she played basketball and ran track. She won a national championship in the Distance Medley Relay for the Grizzlies.
She received her degree in Kinesiology in 2006 from Kansas State, where she also ran track. She received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Kansas Medical School in 2009.
Burns currently lives in Andover and is working as a Doctor of Physical Therapy in Wichita.
