  • A topic that has been getting quite a bit of attention for a while now will be coming before the El Dorado City Commission Monday evening.
The commission will consider an application by the Butler Homeless Initiative to rezone 2058 SE Highway 54, the Blue Spruce Motel, from residential suburban to general business district. This would allow the BHI to open their transitional housing facility at that location.
The issue came before the City Planning Commission on March 27, where they recommended denial of the application by a vote of 2-3. It then went to the Butler County Commission for their input on if it meets their comprehensive plan use for that area. The County Commission also recommended denial of the application by a 2-3 vote.
While these two boards did not give their approval of this change, city staff has given their support of the rezoning.
The city will take action on the item during their meeting, which will begin at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
