  • An historic home near Rosalia burned down Wednesday.
Rosalia Fire District No. 5 Chief Dean Bender, said they were paged out to the call at 3:29 p.m.
"The house was totally burned down when we got there," Bender said, "so it had to burn for some time before anyone noticed it. There was a full basement under the house and it was all in the basement by the time we got there."
By the water meter, Bender said they thought it probably started around 1 p.m., but they did not know for sure. They also do not know the cause of the fire.
The home was a three-story house built in 1906.
"It was kind of a historic landmark here north of Rosalia," he said.
The owner of the home also had a lot of antiques in the home.
Bender estimated the loss of the home and contents to be close to half a million dollars.
No one was home at the time of the fire. The owners had left about 1 p.m.
In addition to the home, two outbuildings were on fire, and Bender said they did get those out. It also burned 10 acres of grass around the house.
