  • The Omega Project announced the creation of a lawn service for the McPherson area, thanks to donations that have occurred in the past few weeks.
The Omega Project helps men turn from addiction by turning hearts toward God.
The first donation, a used 54-inch Excel Hustler mower and a push mower, got the ball rolling, quickly followed by the donation of a 48-inch Hustler Big Dog with zero turn radius, which was donated by Excel Industries, a lawnmower manufacturer based in Hesston. A trailer to haul them was provided through the Jim Stuckey Memorial. A John Deere Stihl weed eater was given, and other funds were donated to cover incidentals.
“God really opened the door,” Pastor David Case, Crossroads Assembly of God, said. “This allows us to put men to work the minute they come in” to the Omega Project.
The advantage is that they are able to be in the company of fellow Omega House program recipients and mentors, making it easier to stay on track with their lifestyle changes.
In addition, the work helps the men to achieve self-sufficiency and self-respect, thus helping maintain the program.
Because the Omega Project is a nonprofit organization, it accepts donations; because it accepts donations from the community, part of its intent is to give back to the community whenever possible.
With that in mind, Case said the project will take on up to 10 lawns gratis, as community service. Referrals must be provided.
The Omega Project is a series of halfway houses that the program sees as discipleship homes. Each of the houses’ leaders have been successful in recovery. A key element of the program is a strong emphasis on mentoring. The Omega Project also includes outreaches to those interested in starting a halfway house, or wanting training in the recovery area.
