  • Andover’s softball team got off to a hot start against Campus during the opener of its home doubleheader Tuesday.
The Trojans scored seven runs in the first inning. But Campus took advantage of six Andover errors and slowly chipped away by scoring three runs in the second, third and seventh innings on way to a 14-9 victory.
In game 2, the Trojans bats stayed hot while Campus cooled. They scored four in the first and five in the fifth to propel them to a 14-4 run-rule victory after six innings to salvage the split.
In game 1, every Trojan had at least one hit. Six of them—Whitney Way, Lexi Lesperance, Taylore Casady, Paige Ellison, Hayley Helmer and Dakotah Smith—all had two hits. Ashley Lopez, Peyton Ramsett and Maddy Bishop all added one hit each.
Way led the Trojans with three RBIs. Lopez had a team-high two runs.
Lesperance pitched all seven innings. She allowed only six earned runs, struck out nine and walked seven.
In game 2, Ramsett had two doubles, and Way, Casady and Ellison all added one double each as part of a 17-hit onslaught. Way was 4-for-5 with four runs scored and an RBI. Ellison and Ramsett both had two RBIs.
Lesperance was 4-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. Lauren Horton was 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and two walks.
Lesperance again pitched a complete game. She allowed two earned runs on 12 hits, struck out five and walked three.
