Ursuline Josephine Penka, 89, died Monday, April 14, 2014 at South Wind Hospice in Pratt. She was born Aug. 30, 1924 in Beaver, Kan., the daughter of John and Isabell (Frenzl) Birzer.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pratt, Daughters of Isabella, and the Women of Sacred Heart.
On May 17, 1945, she married Clement A. Penka at Ellinwood. He died April 13, 2000.
She is survived by a daughter, Jeanne M. (Jeff) Voss, Pratt; two sons, Thomas A. (Regena), Pratt, and David L. Penka, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister Marguerite Birzer, Wichita; three grandchildren, Rachel Broce, Jay Wittig, and Rachelle McGillicuddy, and two great-grandchildren, Jadyn Tillman, and John Thomas McGillicuddy.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Alvin C. Penka; a brother, Lawrence Birzer; and three sisters, Dorothy Krier, Florence Parsons, and Geraldine Westfall
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Larrison Mortuary 300 Country Club Rd., Pratt. Vigil service will be 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pratt. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Floyd McKinney presiding. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.
