  • Bluestem baseball wins thriller in extras

    Game 1 of Bluestem’s baseball game at Central Burden got exciting numerous times.
    The Lions scored four runs in the second, two more in the third and built a 8-3 lead through five innings. But Central Burden rallied with six in the sixth. The Lions, though, scored a run in the seventh to force extras, then scored four in the eighth on way to a 13-10 victory.
    Bluestem romped Central Burden in game 2 by a score of 15-2.
    In game 1, Judd Simon and Nick Saia pitched with Cooper Minnick coming in to close. Minnick had three hits and Jacob Warren had four hits. Bluestem had to come from behind in the top of the seventh to force extra innings.
    “A bit sluggish, but [we] came back to win,” coach Daniel Scribner said.
    In game 2, Dakota Clift throws five innings extremely well. Casey Garner came in to pitch the sixth inning and finish off the game.
    Minnick and Dakota Clift had three hits apiece. Judd Simon and Chance Gale had two hits apiece.
    “We played well and offensively were very balanced,” Scribner said.
