Andover Central's baseball team made defensive plays when it needed to and got solid offensive output in the Jaguars' home-opening doubleheader Tuesday against Goddard.
Central topped the Lions in game 1 by a score of 14-4, then slowly chipped away in game 2 inning by inning for a 6-1 victory to complete the sweep.
In game 2, the Lions scored first for a 1-0 lead in the early innings. Goddard threatened to score more in the third inning, but Lucas Milner and Blake Meier helped turn a nice double play to end the Lions' chances.
Central got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning after an error let Nick Johnston score from third base to tie the game 1-1. Banwart later scored a run, then Kier Stamp drove an RBI double to center to score Tyler Harris for a 3-1 lead.
Stamp had another RBI double to score Harris in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-1. A Goddard pitching error allowed the Jaguars to score another run in the sixth.
Johnston single to center to drive in Austin Cole for the Jaguars' final run of the game.
Central will play a doubleheader Friday, April 11 at Goddard-Eisenhower.
