Andover Central’s boys tennis team had some strong individual performances that led to a fifth-place team finish at its home tennis tournament earlier this week.
The Jaguars finished with 22 points. Salina Central took first with 32 points. Maize South was second (31), Kapaun was third (29) and Wichita Independent (24) took fourth place.
Matheu Wakefield took fourth place in the No. 1 singles flight after an 8-2 loss to Kapaun’s Dustin Herman. Wakefield got a pair of 8-1 wins in pool play to along with an 8-0 loss.
Matt Flynn went 1-2 in pool play with an 8-5 win against Andover High’s CJ Schaeffer and an 8-6 and 8-3 loss.
In doubles action, Jacob Murray and Colin Williams advanced to the championship match after going 3-0 in pool play. But Maize South’s Kellen Filby and Dylan McDonald got the better of them for a 7-3 win.
Cameron Davis and Jacob Thompson were 1-2 in the No. 1 doubles flight.
The Andover Trojans had a rough outing after finishing winless in both singles and doubles action.
