The Augusta Youth Wrestling Club took several wrestlers to the USAWKS 2014 State Folkstyle Championship tournament this past weekend in Topeka.

In the 8-and-under age division, Kalvin LaPlant (52) and Cannon Carey (61) both took second place for the Orioles. LaPlant started with a pin, then got a 6-0 victory to advance to the semifinals. There, he beat Newton's Nick Treaster 4-3 to advance to the championship before losing to Rock Creek's Christopher Coates 11-0. Carey got a pin in the first round and a tech win in the quarterfinals to advance. He got a 12-3 major decision to advance to the championship, but lost a nailbiter 5-4 to Chanute's Ty Leedy.

Marcus Terry (55) took third place for the Orioles. Terry started with a 3-0 victory, then got an 8-0 win to advance to the semifinals. There, Terry lost to Maize's Nakaylen Shabazz. In the consolation rounds, Terry bounced back with two victories to take third place.

Eric Boucher (76) won his first match before losing the next two.

In the 10-and-under age division, Chris Casteel lost both of his matches. In the 12-and-under division, Gavin Barker also lost both of his matches. Michael Bruce (14-and-under, 100) also went 0-2 for the Orioles.

In the high school division, the Orioles had two placers. Jake Goldenstein (120) won his opening match with a pin, then got wins by scores of 9-4 and 5-4 to advance to the championship. But Derby's Braden Dipman pulled off a 4-3 victory as Goldenstein settled for second place.

Wright Bosley (182) also took sixth place. After getting a bye, he started with a 13-5 loss. He then won his next two matches before losing his final two.

Nathan Moore (126) won his first match 8-7 before losing his next two, both by three-point margins.

Josh Moore (132) started with an ultimate tiebreaker victory before losing his next two matches. Darrien Keyser (195) went 0-2 for the Orioles.
