Delbert Varner, 86, of Towanda, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014, in El Dorado.

The family will receive family and friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado. Celebration of his life will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church, El Dorado. Cremation will follow the service with inurnment in Towanda Cemetery.

Delbert was born on July 29, 1927 in Towanda, the son of Grant and Eunice (Pierce) Varner. He graduated from Towanda High School and served in the United States Army. Delbert was a farmer and rural route mail carrier. He was a member of the Rural Letter Carrier Association, Farm Bureau, First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed farming, gardening and playing cards.

Delbert was united in marriage to Esther “Pat” McDowell on July 24, 1959 in West Chester, Iowa.

He leaves: his wife Pat of 54 years; children, Jeff Varner of Towanda, Calvin (Carla) Varner of Towanda, Debra (Paul) Rankin of Rock Hill, SC, Janet Varner of Towanda; sister, Wilma Lill of El Dorado; brother, Ray (Mary) Varner of Towanda; seven grandchildren, David and Sarah Rankin; Amy, Tara and Shelby Varner; Kayla and Tyler Joyce.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lela; and two brothers, Milburn and Donald Varner, Sr.

Memorials in his memory have been established with the Circle District Educational Foundation and First Presbyterian Church of El Dorado, which may be left with Carlson Funeral Home. Leave condolences for the family at www.carlsoncolonial.com.
