Coach Casie Davis had about as good a start in her coaching debut as she could've wanted.

Augusta's girls soccer team was sharp and ran the field well Tuesday afternoon in its season-opening match at Circle. Clarice Dalziel scored a goal just 5:27 into the match and scored again during the second half to lift the Orioles to a 2-1 victory.

The Orioles passed the ball well with quick touches, something Davis has stressed during the preseason. They were able to get the ball upfield and maintain possession on Circle's half of the field throughout most of the first half.

The Thunderbirds had their moments on offense, too, but Augusta freshman goalkeeper Sara Partin made a couple of tough saves before giving up Circle's lone goal.

Still, the Orioles' defense was able to repel most attacks and quickly turn it back upfield to the offense.

The Orioles will go for their second victory against perennial powerhouse Wichita Trinity Thursday afternoon.
