The 28th annual Kansas Governor’s One Shot Turkey Hunt will bring hunters to El Dorado April 10, 11 and 12

The 28th annual Kansas Governor’s One Shot Turkey Hunt will bring hunters from many sates to El Dorado April 10, 11 and 12, including Kansas Governor Sam Brownback.

Former Kansas Governors Mike Hayden and KDOT Secretary Mike King will also attend the three day event. Outdoor TV and video personality Will Primos will attend the event. At the Thursday Get Acquainted Social, Primos will be auctioned off. He will accompany the highest bidder(s) Friday and Saturday for “a day in the woods with Will.”

Theresa Vail, current Miss Kansas, will also be hunting in the event. Director of Conservation Bass Pro Shops Rob Keck is set to emcee for the second year in a row.

Focusing on Kansas and the great resources available, the hunt turns the spotlight on El Dorado and Butler County. The event also showcases many parts of the state while hunters chase the great wild turkey. Area sponsors help to make the event a successful tradition and more than 500 volunteers help to insure the Kansas Governor’s Hunt is an unforgettable experience for all who attend.

Dr. Ken Nelson of Andover, Key Construction President David Wells and Wichita Chamber of Commerce President Wayne Chambers will be in the line-up this year.

Events this year again include the Thursday get-acquainted social, the “Big Tom” hog roast social on Friday and the Saturday “One Shot” banquet. The “Big Tom” and the “One Shot” will be held at Butler Community College Hubbard Welcome Center in the Clifford Stone Room. In Addition, a celebrity social will be held the first evening of events to be held downtown at Coutts Museum of Art and will be sponsored by El Dorado Inc.

Passing on the hunting heritage to the next generation remains a continued focus for the event. Twenty-three youth from all over the state applied for a chance to participate in the Kansas Governor’s One Shot Turkey Hunt Youth Program 2014. Riley Brown of El Dorado, Allison Dix of Stockton, Joseph Heimann of Hays,

Avery Lewellen of Wellington, Ethan Shaw of Logan and Jenna Smithson of Osage City are the six youth chosen this year.

“Hunting Heroes” continues to support the hunt’s mission of education and opportunity with outdoors experiences for military, law enforcement, firefighting and paramedic/rescue personnel that have served to keep us safe and free. The 2014 hunt will host two Fort Riley soldiers.

Public luncheons at the weigh-in will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Butler County Community Center. One Shot Banquet tickets can also be purchased based on availability.
