Augusta fire fighters responded to a fire on SE 90th just east of Highway 77 Tuesday afternoon.

The fire involved several old cars in a field.

The fire was started from a controlled burn that got out of control.

“They were doing a pasture burn and their sprayer malfunctioned and let the fire get out of control,” said Major Ray Marbut, with the Augusta Department of Public Safety.

The fire burned about 20 acres and also damaged 21 salvage vehicles. No structures were in danger during the fire.

Fire fighters from Augusta requested assistance from the Leon Fire Department and they had the fire under control in about 20 minutes.
