'Penny' Delores May Drake, 86, a resident of Augusta since 2005, and formerly of Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014.

A private memorial service will be held.
Penny was born in East Chicago, Ind., on May 24, 1927 to the late Helen E. (Saturday) and Sheldon L. Fegely. She worked as a switch board operator and other secretarial jobs. On Oct. 28, 1945, she married Horatio D. Garmon, and they had four children. Horatio, her loving husband of 15 years, preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1960. As a young widow, she met James “Jim” W. Drake, who was also widowed. They were married on Aug. 13, 1961. Jim was her loving husband, best friend and soul mate of 41 years. He preceded her in death on May 21, 2002.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Suzan L. Wells on July 27, 1977.
Penny was a Christ follower, a loving wife and mother, and an amazing homemaker. She had a passion for cooking and hosted numerous and “too many to count” gatherings, bringing family and friends together with love, laughter, and lots of fun! She was a past president of the Lady Lions Club of Hammond, Ind., and also a volunteer with the American Legion. Penny volunteered for 15 years at Community Hospital in Munster, Ind. She was a member of Woodmar United Methodist Church in Hammond, and became a member of Central Christian Church in Wichita in 2006. She was loved much and will be missed much.
She is survived by: her daughter, Melody Hopper (Glenn) of Augusta; her sons, Tim Garmon and Randy Garmon, both of Aloha, Ore., and David Drake (Joan) of Medford, Ore.; sisters, Jeanne Allen of Tucson, Ariz., Trish Hollingsworth of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Shelly Schlesinger (Charles) of New York, NY; grandchildren, Tisa Augsburger (Jeff) of Crown Point, Ind., Derrick Schreiber, Kelley Johnson (Jerry), Jessica Meek (Myron), Justin, Angela, and Jamin Garmon, Dustin and Darin Drake; great-grandchildren, Ryan Schreiber, Ali and Jake Schreiber, Mia Augsburger, Jack Allen, Bryce and Brynn Schreiber, Josie Johnson, Morgan, Ashley and Sophie Johnson, Raynee and Devon Meek, Natalie and Ava Williams; step children, many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
