Vernon E. Anderson, 84, El Dorado, died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Lakepoint Rehabilitation in El Dorado.

Visitation with family present will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 21, at Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado. A celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Mt. Orum Cemetery, Redfield, Kan.

He was born in Redfield, Kan. on April 9, 1929, the son of James Earl and Eva (LaRue) Anderson. Vernon graduated from Ft. Scott High School, and had served in the US Army. He was a clerk for the Union Pacific Rail Road until retiring after 30 years of service. He later worked for the Butler County Landfill where he worked for 11 years. He had made his home in El Dorado since 1958. On Nov. 20, 1955, he and Carmen Clark were united in marriage at Blue Mound, Kan. He was a member of the American Legion, loved to fish, garden - and was famous for the tomatoes he grew, woodworking, and watching KU basketball.

Those he leaves include: his wife, Carmen of the home; sons, Lewis Anderson, of Redfield, and Jim Anderson and wife Linda of Council Grove; sister, Carolyn Lawson of Smithville, Mo.; four grandchildren, Katie Tappan and husband Lucas, John Sigle, Christa Ingenthron and husband Eric, and Joseph Sigle; four great-grandchildren, Phillip and Nicholas Tappan; Capree and Camdyn Ingenthron.

He was preceded in death by his brother Ralph Lee Anderson and a sister, Angie Milford.
