Frances E. "Liz" Gritz, 75, El Dorado, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014
Frances Elizabeth “Liz” (Billups) Gritz, 75, of El Dorado, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday; funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday March 14, 2014, both at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, with Pastor Robin Haines officiating. Interment will be at Elk Falls Cemetery.
She was born on Oct. 30, 1938 in West Plains, Mo., the daughter of Edward Everett and Jenny Irene (Woods) Billups.
Liz worked in the food service industry for many years and she retired as the food supervisor from the Butler County Correctional Facility. She made quilts and enjoyed crocheting - creating things like dolls, hats and house slippers. Liz loved playing bingo, cards and board games with friends, camping, family and her children. She was mechanically inclined and once rebuilt a carburetor on the kitchen table with her son Roger.
Liz is survived by: her sons, Roger Gritz of El Dorado, Jerry Gritz of Topeka, and Rick Gritz of El Dorado; daughters, Sherry Smith of Sedalia, Mo. and Brenda Collins of Troy, Mo.; brother, Jim Billups of Viola, Ka.; sister, Cleola “Cle” Ankerholtz of Augusta; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
