Dorothy 'Dort' Main, 84, El Dorado, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014

Dorothy “Dort” Ann (Busby) Main, who passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014, will be remembered for her love of art, storytelling and friendship.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the Trinity Episcopal Church in El Dorado.

Dort was born June 21, 1929, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Charles and Agnes Seeman Busby. Dorothy and her two brothers, Al and Sam, were raised in Kansas City, Kan.

She graduated high school in the Shawnee Mission school district and went on to attend Kansas State University, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority.

It was at Kansas State she met Max G. Main, an engineering major, who she married in 1950. Max moved his city girl to the oil town of El Dorado, where they made their home together and raised their daughter, Jennifer.

After Max passed away unexpectedly in 1981, Dort became a businesswoman, running AMA Electric Co., Inc., successfully until she later sold it. Perhaps she gleaned her business smarts during the three summers she and Jennifer opened and ran an ice cream shop in Cripple Creek, Colo., in the late 1950s.

After her retirement, Dort focused her energy on her many hobbies, including painting, traveling, serving as an art docent and spending time with her horses. She moved part-time to Prescott, Ariz., for much of the 1990s, where she enjoyed these activities and, most of all, precious friendships.

Dort is survived by: daughter, Jennifer Callaway and her husband, Dave of El Dorado; granddaughters, Kristin Baker of Wichita and Kelsey Sundgren and husband Jeremy of El Dorado; and great-granddaughters, Ruby and Violet Baker.

Memorials may be made to the Coutts Memorial Museum of Art, 110 N. Main, El Dorado, KS 67042. Memorials may be left at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Send condolences to www.kirbymorrisfuneralhome.com
