  • The Augusta Orioles looked to be headed in the right direction in the early moments of the game with Andover Central but the Jaguars had other ideas upsetting Augusta 71-59 Friday.
"Augusta is a great team and fortunately for us they did not shoot the ball well tonight, we made some timely three's in the third quarter as they got close and that helped us to the victory," said ACHS head coach Jesse Herrmann
The Orioles built an early lead in the first quarter making their baskets and getting to the foul line as well to lead Central 17-12 after the opening eight minutes of play.
Andover Central was within striking distance and found their legs in the second quarter.
"I am proud of our guys we played a tough schedule this season and had to battle through some times as far as wins and losses but they are a good group and we will try to keep it going as long as we can," said Herrmann.
The Jaguars came out firing in the second led by the exciting play of Darraja Parnell helping Central to 20 points in the quarter and limiting the Orioles to just six points. The second quarter was capped by a buzzer beating 3-pointer by Christopher Forbes to finish the half. Central was up 32-23 at the half on Orioles.
"Darraja is a great player and he is getting better every time he goes out for us and he is a weapon and we are thankful that he is on our team," said Herrmann.
Both teams fought furiously in the third exchanging baskets at times but the Jaguars won the tilt in the third outscoring the Orioles 17-12 in the third.
With the end of their season looming the Orioles fought selling out on the court on every play. In turn both offenses opened up and for the first time since the first quarter the Orioles outscored Central. Albeit was only by two points at 24-22 in Augusta's favor as time ran out on the Orioles and their season as well.
Central the #4 seed in the El Dorado substrate will face El Dorado Saturday night  for a chance at state.
"As we have been 5A the past few years this is different for us playing back to back games, we celebrated tonight and now we go back and get ready for our next one," said Herrmann.
Central was led by the offensive play of Darraja Parnell who poured in 27 points and accounted for countless boards going 7-8 from the line. Josiah Cole had 12 points that included two 3-pointers and going 2-4 from the line. Christian DeYoung scored 12 points that included a 3-pointer and going a perfect 7-7 from the line. Zachary Locke added seven points, Christopher Forbes had five points, Nick Taylory and Logan Kirkhart each had three points and Brock Schaffer had two points.
