Charles “Charlie” Francis Hoffman was born Dec. 1, 1930 in the town of Minneola. He died Feb. 28, 2014.

In 1949, at the age of 18 he joined the Air Force and was a radar operator. In 1952 he was married to Claudia Suzanne Pierce. They had nine children. In 1965 they moved from Hutchinson to Pratt to take over his father’s oil service company. This is when he was given an oven and materials and started making the pizza taco.

Charlie went to work at Shaffer Plow in 1973. He resumed making his pizza tacos at the American Legion and with a couple of ovens he traveled around surrounding areas, selling pizza tacos until in 1984 he settled down in the store in Pratt. Charlie was devoted to his pizza tacos.

Charlie married Phyllis Ellis in 1981 and they have been married 32 years.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Hoffman; grandchild, Randi M.; his parents, Albert and Rose Hoffman; brothers, Andrew and William; and stepson, Kendall Ellis.

Charlie is remembered by his wife Phyllis; sisters, Florence Allen, Springdale, Ark., Rosetta Sorenson, St. Louis, Mo., and Arlene Turner, Kansas City, Mo.; children, Charles D. Hoffman (Tracy), Boise, Idaho, David Hoffman (Tami), Golden, Colo., Dan Hoffman (Sherry), Pratt, Cindy Fox (Steve), Arvada, Colo., Tom Hoffman (Cheryl), Morrell, Neb., Linda Spencer (Rick), Alliance, Neb., John Hoffman (Kyla), Dalhart, Texas, Paul Hoffman (Amy), Arvada, Colo., and Kim Baughman, Douglass.

Charlie has 35 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

He loved to fish and his buddies and their daily adventures made life very interesting.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 22 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A vigil service will be held March 21.
