  • State wrestling tournament update: First, second round

  • Four of Augusta's 12 wrestlers advanced to the second round of the Class 4A state tournament Friday in Salina.
    Jake Goldenstein (113 pounds), Nathan Moore (120), Colton Clayborn (160) and Wright Bosley (170) all won their first-round matches.
    Goldenstein has advance to the semifinal round, where he will face Bonner Springs' Josiah Seaton, whom Goldenstein defeated last year in the championship. Seaton, a senior, is undefeated this year.
    Moore lost in the second round and will continue in the consolations Saturday.
    Tyler Hildibrand (106), Josh Moore (126), Connor Spellman (145), Rob Winzer (152), Cody Thompson (182), Blake Watkins (195), Ian O'Laughlin (220) and Blake Aitchison (285) all will try to stay alive in consolation competition, as well.
    El Dorado's Reno Hughey was upset in Round 2 by Wamego's Dalton Carley 16-8. Daniel Thomas (138) lost in the first round. Jacobb Burnett (285) advance to Round 2 for the Wildcats.
    Rose Hill's Jake Wilson (138) advance to the semifinals, where he will face Mulvane's Connor Penka.
    Andover Central's Nic Augustin (145) and Paul Suhr (152) both advance to Round 2 in their respective brackets. Dakota Rodd advanced to Round 2 before losing.
    In Class 5A, Andover High School's Jack Maki (120) and Paul Stewart (113) both advanced to the semifinal round of their respective matches. Mike Lopez won his first match at 195 for the Trojans. Jake Dusenbury lost his first match.
    In the Class 3-2-1A tournament, both Lane Moran (152) and Casey Garner (132) got through Round 1, but Garner lost a 6-2 decision and Moran got pinned in the second round. They will compete in consolations Saturday.
