  • Lady T-Birds drop final regular season game to Wellington

  • Wellington played spoiler for the Lady T-Birds on Thursday night beating Circle in their final regular season game 53-45.
    The Thunderbirds looked to be headed on the right track early on against visiting foe Wellington earning a 14-12 lead over the Crusaders after the first quarter.
    The Crusaders seized control of the lead in the game in the second quarter. Wellington found the bottom of the net for 17 points in the quarter and limited the Thunderbirds to just seven points taking a 29-21 lead over Circle heading into halftime.
    Wellington put the defensive clamps on the Lady Thunderbirds to start the second half. The Crusaders scored 12 points in the third quarter and held Circle again to just seven points in the frame. Wellington led Circle 41-28 heading into the fourth quarter.
    The Thunderbirds fought back furiously in the fourth quarter. Circle had its best offensive quarter of the games scoring 17 points. Wellington dropped in 12 points of their own and the lead proved to be to great for Circle as they fell 53-45.
    Circle was led by Caylie Kifer with 13 points that included a 3-pointer and going 2-2 from the line. Katie Frankenberry scored nine points. Kate Wilson added eight points that included two 3-pointers. Talia Highbarger and Leah Metzger scored five points each. Reagan Wilson and Alison Kirkham added two points each. Allyssa Kirkham added a point.
    Circle was 5-13 from the free throw line and Wellington was 15-30 from the stripe.
    Circle takes on Augusta Thursday in the opening round of sub-state playoffs Thursday in El Dorado.
