Mardeen Maxine (Bolze) Hartford, 86, passed away on Feb.14, 2014, at Collins House, Meadowlark Hills, Manhattan, Kan.
There will be no visitiation. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth.
She was born on June 15, 1927, in Mildred, Kan., the daughter of Eva Veleria (Curley) and Clarence F. Bolze. She attended school in Kansas City, Kan., and was a graduate of Wyandotte High School.
In May of 1949, she graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
On June 5, 1954, she married John Henry Hartford, in Kansas City, Kan. He preceded her in death on June 22, 2013.
She taught physical education at El Dorado Junior High, El Dorado, from 1949 to 1953. She then taught at Independence Junior High, Independence, Kan., from 1953 to 1954. She also worked at the Citizen State Bank, El Dorado. In 1961, she moved with her family to Pittsburg, and then moved to Wichita in 1965. In 1971 she began working for USD 259 in Wichita, in the Purchasing Department; retiring in 1988. She moved to Newton.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, most recently, the First Presbyterian Church, Manhattan; and a member of PEO, in Newton.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Calvin Bolze; and one sister, Martha Pollack.
Survivors include: her daughter, Lynnellen (Lynne) Burns, Manhattan; former son-in-law, Calvin Burns, Halstead; and one grandson, Travis Burns, Halstead.
Memorials may be made to a scholarship fund with Pittsburg State University, Meadowlark Hills Good Samaritan Fund, Homecare & Hospice, Inc., or the donor's choice, in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502.
