  • The Independent Panthers girls’ basketball team is young. They have four freshmen and no seniors on the roster. And they play like a young team.
They brought a 5-10 record into Douglass Monday night and left the court with a hard-fought 45-39 win. Junior Alise Coccetella led all scorers with 22 points including seven of eight free throw shooting in the game’s final moments.
Douglass got off to a slow start, and even though they didn’t ever hit their stride, they still came back to lead the Lady Panthers 31-30 early in the fourth quarter.
But WIS got the lead back and Douglass could never hit the big shot they needed late and the Lady Panthers hit their free throws to extend the lead late.
Sarah Hajdukovich led Douglass with 11 points. Cashlynn Munroe added nine and Maressah Milam scored eight. Sara Dressler scored six and Klair Gibson had three to wrap up the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs.
