  • A house fire claimed a house in Douglass Sunday afternoon.
    The fire was reported at 4:25 p.m.
    Butler County Fire District #3 assisted Butler County Fire District #8 (Douglass) on a large residential structure fire. They were assisted by the Augusta Department of Public Safety, Cowley County Fire District #4 (Udall) and Cowley County Fire District #2 (Atlanta).
    Butler County Fire District #8 (Douglass) Fire Chief John Ford said a grandmother and five children were at home at the time of the fire, but they all escaped without injury. They were out of the home by the time fire fighters arrived. In addition six puppies along with the mother dog were rescued.
    Ford said the cause of the fire has been ruled accidental.
    Help is being requested for this family.
    They are in need of clothes in the following sizes: girls size 10-12 with a shoe size 6 1/2 and 18 months with shoe size 3-4 in infant , and boys size 8-10 with a shoe size 4-5, size 6-7 with shoe size 12-1 and size 3T with shoe size 11. They also are in need of clothes for an elderly woman size 24, as well as toiletries and a coat for her. Drop things off at Rockin' D's in Augusta. Please do not bring furniture items.
