An engergized McPherson High boys team shot 6-for-12 from three-point range in the first half, setting the tone for a homecoming win over El Dorado Friday night at the MHS Roundhouse.
It was a three-ball fest, really, for the Bullpups in the 54-35 win, as they finished the game 11-for-20, with Kyler Kinnamon, Drew Pyle and Ryan Horton all nailing three each. Horton, who was one of the homecoming candidates, was perfect from behind the arc.
"Ryan doesn't have the personality where he wants to be the man," MHS coach Kurt Kinnamon said. "But we know he's a fantastic shooter and always has been. It's good to see him step up."
The Bullpups had originally defeated El Dorado 76-41 on Jan. 17, and the sequel proved to be no-less lopsided, as MHS (15-1, 7-0 AVCTL Div. III) out-ran the Wildcats to open the game with a 22-2 full-court blitz that had El Dorado frustrated.
The Wildcats' only first-quarter points came off Jared Haury with 2:24 left in the period.
El Dorado was able to play a little more competivitely at the beginning of the second quarter, but an 8-0 McPherson run about halfway through the period left the Wildcats deflated.
Kyler Kinnamon put up 13 poitns and dished out seven assists for the Bullpups in his usual solid offensive effort. Defensively, he locked down El Dorado's Travis House almost completely.
House managed only two field goals and eight points on the night and coughed up the ball six times. Kurt Kinnamon acknowledged that the younger Kinnamon seems to pick up his defensive game another step when House is involved.
"I don't know what the dynamic is there, but [Kyler] did a good job with it," Kurt Kinnamon said. "A lot of times, when you bring the ball up in front of you, [Kyler's] going to bring the hands."
Drew Pyle added 11 points on the night.
Alec Hildreth led the Wildcats (8-8, 2-4)with 11 points and six boards.
The Bullpup defense held El Dorado to a mere eight total field goals in 44 attempts on the night, while MHS was 19-for-38.
The MHS JV boys had a big night, defeating El Dorado 68-46, led by Spenser Wine's 15 points. Caleb Spaich added 11.
The El Dorado freshmen just edged out MHS 55-54. Brock Malm had 14 points, while Spaich added another 12.
