  • El Dorado’s Relay For Life kicked off its 2014 Relay Thursday evening at Pizza Hut, offering information and signing up teams.
The first team captain meeting will be held at 7 p.m. March 10 at the AseraCare Conference Room.
Kelli Scott, Relay chair, said they are still signing teams up for the Relay and anyone interested can sign up their team online at www.relayforlife.org.
People can show up at this first team captain meeting to get information, but they have to sign-up online before they will receive their team packet. Those who are signing up as survivors can do so online, but the form has changed slightly and there is a box to check farther down the form, or people can just check cash so that they are not charged. There is no charge for survivors to walk.
“We want survivors to get involved,” Debbie Hall, team recruitment co-chair, said. “Even if they are not on a team, we want survivors to come out for the survivor lap.”
The survivor lap kicks off the Relay each year.
They also want to get more people in general involved.
“We are also looking for youth ball teams to get involved with their parents and more churches to get involved,” Hall said.
“Really we just want more of everyone,” Scott added.
The event will have a baseball theme this year, which opens up a lot of possibilities for creativity.
“I’m ready to see all of the different spin-offs for it,” Scott said.
“And all of the activities we can do,” Hall added.
The Relay will be held at East Park at the ball diamonds.
“We’re glad we’re moving back outside,” Hall added.
Last year the event was moved inside the gym at Butler Community College. This will allow them to again have the sunset and sunrise, two important aspects of the Relay.
