  • Andover Police Department received the AAA Gold Award

  • Andover Police Department received the AAA Gold Award at Tuesday evening’s City Council Meeting.
    Jim Haney of AAA presented Police Chief Mike Keller with Andover’s third consecutive AAA Kansas Community Traffic Safety Award.
    He noted the Gold Award “demonstrates superior efforts in addressing local safety traffic issues. The proof of their superior efforts is in the results.”
    Haney said the purpose of the award “is to encourage communities to address local traffic safety needs and issues in a cost-effective and coordinated way.”
    Haney congratulated Mayor Ben Lawrence and Council members for their support of the police department’s efforts in traffic safety.
    “It’s a great pleasure to present Chief Keller with the Gold Award for AAA for 2013,” he said.
    Haney presented the award to Chief Keller and Lieutenant Lance Parker.
    The City Council also:
    • approved the Cornerstone 4th Addition paving and drainage bid to APAC Kansas for $339,963.
    • approved a zoning case for 526 N. Prosperity Lane, which rezones the property from single family residential district to office business district.
    • heard a presentation by Dusty Davis with ICI Insurance about the city’s insurance program and the 360 Safety Program. The 360 Safety Program, started in Andover about a year ago, has seen outstanding results. Davis presented a $250 dividend check to the city as part of the 360 Safety Program.
