Andover Police Captain Justin Phillips credited help from the public with locating two teens who had run away from Andover Monday.
Phillips said a person in Kansas City, Mo., saw Zachary Fruechting, 15, and Alanna Ardanche, who turned 15 on the day the couple ran away, and recognized them from the broadcasts alerting people they were missing and believed to be in possession of a firearm.
That person called 911 and the Kansas City police picked the pair up. They were healthy and safe when they were taken into custody. The Andover Police sent officers to Kansas City to bring the pair back to Andover.
"Their parents were relieved," Phillips said. "This case proves that the more eyes we can get looking for missing persons, the better chance there is of them being found."
An investigation will be conducted into the circumstances around the pair leaving the area together. No charges have been filed in the case.
